Body Sculpting Q & A

What is body sculpting?

Body sculpting is a non-invasive solution for removing fat without the need for surgery. A safe, effective procedure, body sculpting typically involves a handheld device that sends cold, heat, or sound waves directly into fat cells. The treatment targets and eliminates bulges of fat without harming your surrounding skin, tissues, or nerves.

Body sculpting can be used on nearly any part of your body. Because the therapy does away with fat cells, you can expect permanent results from the treatment.

While the results of body sculpting are more subtle than with more invasive treatments like liposuction, you should see a difference after treatment. For example, your stomach will appear flatter, or your pants will feel a little looser.

What areas does body sculpting treat?

Body sculpting is particularly good for eliminating problematic areas of fat that haven’t responded to diet or exercise. It can treat your:

  • Love handles
  • Stomach
  • Thighs
  • Chin
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Knees

In general, body sculpting is ideal for destroying the amount of fat you can pinch, which is called cutaneous fat.

What should I expect before body sculpting?

Your provider will review your medical history and ask about any medications you’re currently taking. Together, you’ll talk about whether you might be a good candidate for body sculpting. Generally, the right candidate for the procedure is someone whose body mass index, or weight, is in the normal range for their height.

What should I expect from body sculpting?

The treatment is performed as an office procedure. It doesn’t require any numbing cream or anesthesia. Depending on the type of system your provider uses, you may feel a warm or cold sensation but will feel very little pain.

Typically, your treatment will take between 25 minutes to an hour. You may need 2-4 sessions, but your provider will create a plan that’s right for you. Afterward, you may feel sore and see some redness, swelling, or bruising in the treatment area for a few days.

Your results will appear in time, as your body gradually carries away the excess fat cells. It generally takes 12-16 weeks to see the full results of body sculpting.
